Carson's Birthday Party

This last Saturday, we had a Transformer's birthday party for Carson and all of his friends. Boy, was I in for a treat, when 14 seven and eight year old boys showed up at my house! It was a crazy house for the next hour and a half...but I think it turned out really well, and everyone seemed to have a good time!

Carson's invitation - I made it with Photoshop!

For the party, I tried to make everything like in the movie. So, we started out with a letter that contained "Orders from Optimus Prime". Before I read the order from Optimus, I gave them all an envelope with a picture of a transformer in robot form on the front. I told them that inside the envelope was puzzle pieces that would transform them into their vehicle. They were then read the order from Optimus - "Do not take out your puzzle pieces yet, in order to get your puzzle pieces and transform, you'll have to complete 4 missions. Once you have ALL completed all 4 missions, you can come back to base and put your puzzle together so that you can transform into your vehicle. Once EVERYONE completes their puzzle, Optimus Prime (Carson's puzzle was Optimus) will give the order to transform and roll out. Then you will get clues to find where the allspark is hidden." "You must work as a team! Everyone must complete every mission. If someone can't complete a mission, then someone must help them...that's what a team does right?" "Is everyone ready?"
  • Mission #1: Name the transformers. I had a poster with 10 transformer on it and they had to write down the name of each one.

  • Mission #2: Balloon Battle. I tied a balloon to each of their legs and they had to stomp on and pop all of the balloons on each other.

  • Mission #3: Energy Crystals. This was from cartoon - not the actual movie. The transformers can get energy from energon spheres but only the blue ones will give you energy. I had a bucket filled with water and dish soap (to make lots of bubbles on top so that they couldn't see into the bucket). In the bottom I had put colored marbles...and enough blue ones so that each kid would get a blue energy crystal. They had to reach into the bucket and find a blue one so that they would have enough energy to find the Allspark.

  • Mission #4: Bomb Barricade. I had a picture of Barricade taped onto a bean bag tossing game...they had to throw the bean bag to Bomb Barricade...but they had to make sure not to bomb Bumble Bee or Optimus Prime.

Once they all completed the missions, they were able to get their puzzles and put them together. Then I gave them the first clue to find the Allspark and Optimus gave the order to "roll out."

The clues were:

  1. If you want to find the Allspark - it's not hard to see, you'll find the next clue where you'd put in the movie.
  2. To find the cube, look far and deep - for the next clue go where Carson rests his head to sleep.
  3. Tranformers live among us, hidden in plain sight, go to the basement and look towards the light
  4. The Decepticons are getting close, to defeat them, find this clue where you wipe your feed.
  5. The Allspark is almost in your grasp, for this clue is your very last! With Transformers, there's more than meets the eye - go to the place where the clothes get dry.

I had taken a box and make it look like the Allspark and then filled it with their goody bags...and then it was hidden in the dryer.

Then we did presents. He got lots of Transformer toys and Lego sets! He's been really into the Lego's lately - which is fabulous - he will spend hours making things with them!

Then we sang Happy Birthday and had cake and icecream. For the cake, I just made a cake and then put three mini transformers on it. It was a big hit!

Carson's presents from Mom and Dad - given to him on his actual birthday. He got Lego sets and of course a new Transformer and a Transformer puzzle. He and Karlee played with the lego sets all night!
