Mr. Science

Carson had two of his friends that had "Science" themed birthday parties in January. He was so excited to learn all about science and to try out the things that he learned! He brought home a sack of science experiments from one of the birthday parties. Here are pictures of him making a volcano with a simple mixture of vinegar, baking soda and food coloring. Oh, yeah...and you can't forget the safety goggles! Isn't he just soooo cute?? And doesn't he just look sooooo smart?

Recipe for a volcanic eruption:
2 tsp baking soda
3 TBSP vinegar
a few drops of red food coloring...

Place baking soda into top of volcano cup. Mix food coloring and vinegar. Pour over baking soda...and watch it erupt!

Also included were recipe's for "Diet Coke Geyser"...Do this outside in an open area. Open bottle of diet coke, add mentos all at once and quickly move away. Watch the awesome explosion!
Lava Lamps: A water bottle with oil and blue colored water in it. Break Alkaseltzer tablets into small pieces and dissolve in oil water and watch the colors flow!
Balloon Blow up: Balloon, 1 oz water, empty soda bottle, 1 tsp baking soda, lemon juice or vinegar. Blowing up a balloon: Stretch the balloon to make it easier to inflate. Pour the water into the clean, empty soda bottle. Add the baking soda and dissolve it into the water. Pour in the vinegar or lemon juice and then quickly stretch the balloon over the bottle. Watch the balloon fill up!
I love that these parties were both fun and informative for Carson! They got him excited about science and all of the neat things that he can learn!
