So, I'm sure you remember my post about 6 months ago about Trent's lasik surgery. Well, we planned in our flex plan for this year for me to get it. Because I wore hard contacts for 19 years, I had to transition to soft contacts until my prescription stabilized. They told me that this could take anywhere from 2 to 6 months. I went back every couple of weeks to be checked. I was so excited, when last Friday at my appt, Dr. Harrie told me it was a go!!! However, because my corneas where too thin, I had to have PRK instead of Lasik. PRK was actually the predecessor to lasik and many doctors still prefer to use this method. However, the drawback is that the recovery time for PRK is 3-5 days of pretty intense pain, whereas, lasik has immediate results with little or no pain. So anyway, this past Wednesday, I went in and finally had my turn! You'd all be so proud of me...I didn't even pass out (ok...I ALMOST passed out). Valium and Percocet is a wonderful thing!!! The procedure actually wasn't that bad...but the pain on wed, thurs and friday was horrible. Today, it is less so (about 25% of the initial pain) and my site is getting better each day.
Here is an article describing the differences between lasik and PRK...if you're interested: http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/prk.htm
Trent was a fabulous comforter during the procedure...he held my hand the whole time...other than the brief time after the first eye, when he was holding my feet up so that I wouldn't pass out!
