First Day of School

August 23 was the first day of school here in Tallahassee. The kids are attending Hawks Rise Elementary School. They also get to ride the bus to school...and the bus stop is only 2 houses down from Mike and Annette's house. School starts a lot earlier here in Tallahassee than in Utah, the kids have to be at the bus stop by 7:15 am. Crazy!!! Of course, I'm usually up with little missy, so even though 6:30 comes mighty early (especially when we're still adjusting to the time change), we are coping ok!...LOL!

One of the great things about the schools here in Florida is the class sizes. The class sizes are mandated by the state, so classes are small (compared to Utah). The class size for my kids is 18 and 19 students! Isn't that great??? I love that the classes are much smaller. Also, 5th grade (which is Karlee's grade) rotates through 2 teachers. Karlee's homeroom teacher is Mrs. Hall and she is with her for the first half of the day for reading, spelling, etc and then she goes to Mr. D for math and science in the afternoon. I guess it is helping to prepare them for Middle School - which they go to in 6th grade here!!!

Carson started the third grade and his teacher is Mrs. Samere. He is doing good and making new friends. Both kids seem to be really loving it here. They are adjusting so well! I am so proud of them!

Here are some pictures from the first day!
