A New President

... President Barack Obama
Tuesday was a very historical day for America! I like what my kids' school Principal said that morning in her morning announcements. She said that today Americans would have the opportunity to vote for either the first woman Vice President or the First African American President. As an American, who doesn't necessarily follow politics (although my husband does and then "translates" for me), I am proud to have been able to take part in this historical event. I am a firm believer that it is our right and duty as Americans to make our voices heard and vote. I think that no matter who we voted for or whether or not we're happy about Barack Obama being our next President, we need to continue to stand united as a Nation...and to have faith in God. I know that I, for one, will never totally agree with any President. So, I'm going to try and be positive and know that our "differences" are what helped create our Nation. And yes, I guess I can also say that I was alive when this Nation elected the first African American President - even though my vote wasn't for him :)
I also think that this is a great teaching opportunity for our children. There are so many things that we can teach them: patriotism, duty, tolerance, let-down (we don't always get what we want), faith, to name a few! I hope that we can all - yes ME included-move forward with a positive outlook and a commitment to do our part to help make positive changes and keep our Nation great and "just" for all!
