Our Disney Cruise–October 2011–Part 1

I keep putting off blogging about our cruise, simply because I know that it’s going to be a MASSIVE undertaking! However, I’m thinking that it’s time to get it done! So, I’m going to split it into parts (hey, even I learned in school that it’s easier to divide and conquer).

I have to say that this was the absolute best vacation that we’ve ever taken! This was our 3rd Disney Cruise. Our first cruise, we went along with some friends and neighbors and had a great time. Our second one, it was just our family (ok…it wasn’t just us on the boat…dang, how would that be??…but we didn’t go with others that we knew). This time however, we went with my sister Mindy’s family and a couple of our great friends’ families. So, there was a ton of us that not only knew each other, but that loved each other! All of our cabins were in the same hall and it was seriously one big, weeklong party! Because we were on a ship (and therefore pretty “safe”) we pretty much let the older kids have free reign. Sometimes we didn’t see them all day…or we’d run into them throughout the day; laughing and hanging out together! Our friends, the Warners have 4 kids, the VanLeeuwens have 3 and then my sister has 5. So, there were tons of kids hanging out together! In Karlee’s age group there was her, Bayleigh (Mindy’s daughter), Syndney Warner and Ashley VanLeeuwen. Those 4 girls had so much fun together. It was so sad to have to say goodbye! A neat story about karlee and Ashley VanLeeuwen: we met the VanLeeuwen’s in our adoption classes years ago. We were all “waiting” together. We became friends and then actually got our baby girls just weeks apart. Karlee was born Oct 10 and Ashely on Oct 3. When they were smaller and Trent and I were actively serving on the National board of Family Supporting Adoption, the girls spent many hours playing together!

Anyway, by the end of the cruise, all 4 families (us included) had re-booked for our next Disney Cruise…November of 2013. We all look forward to doing it again TOGETHER! And, we’re thinking, “the more the merrier”…so what are you waiting for…we’d love to have you join us!

Ok…here’s the first few “memorable” activities:

Arriving at the cruise ship port! We are so excited, we can’t wait to get on!!

Waiting inside the terminal for our “number” to be called so that we can board the ship.

Whew…we’re finally on the ship…now it’s time to explore! This is up on deck 10 at the sports complex.IMG_4353IMG_4355

The next morning was our scheduled character breakfast! Character breakfasts on the cruise are fabulous because a cast member brings each character around to each table and makes sure that you get pictures taken before moving on. That way, you don’t miss any of the characters, and people aren’t hoarding all the time with the characters!

Some of the characters even spend time making funny hats out of napkins!

Ok…that’s all for now! More to come…I promise!
